– The Port Angeles Stairclimb Challenge, an annual fundraising effort dedicated to helping Port Angeles Firefighters in their effort to raise funds to beat cancer, wraps up its final organized climb on Monday, February 20 at the Port Angeles downtown fountain stairs. The climb starts at 4:00 p.m.
The local climbs serve as a countdown to local firefighters’ participation in the March 12 Scott Firefighter’s Stairclimb, a climb up to the top of the Columbia Center in Seattle wearing full firefighter gear. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

November 14, 2016
: Climb 1, Klahanne Gymnastics, Impact Fastpitch, Port Angeles Swim Club, Stevens Middle School and Dry Creek Elementary School Staff
December 5, 2016:
Climb 2, Port Angeles High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC), United States Coast Guard
January 9, 2017:
Climb 3, PAHS Wrestling, United States Marines, Stevens Middle School student
Proceeds from each year’s event supports The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding cancer research.

In December, Port Angeles High School Leadership students, led by student Erin Edwards in an effort to raise funds to beat cancer, brought in $551.52 in cash donations, mostly collected from staff and students’ donations” one dollar at a time.
Additionally, Stevens students and staff collected $621 in January, besting their 2015 total of $502.74, in the “Bring a Dollar” event to add to annual local firefighters’ fundraising-stairclimb efforts to beat cancer.
